Our family loves sushi! When my husband and I were newly married we had some friends who taught me how to make my own and I am so grateful because it has become a staple in our house. My kids have even told me how much they prefer my homemade sushi to the sushi we've had in restaurants and I'm glad because it is so much cheaper, but it totally is not anything super complicated or extravagant.

Slow Cooker Tomato Sauce for Pasta
We were planning to be gone all day at the beach so instead of cooking the tomato sauce for pasta all day on low on the stove, I decided to try using the slow cooker. And it worked great! I will definitely be doing that again.
1. Pour in the tomato sauce. I have a pretty big slow cooker (6-8 quarts), but two jars 680 mL each of crushed strained tomatoes was enough to fill it past the "minimum fill" line.

Taco Meat Recipe
I used to buy taco seasoning from the store until a friend of mine passed on to me her recipe for taco meat. It is soooo good! Taco salad is definitely one of my favourite meals!

Best Ever Quinoa Chocolate Cupcakes
These cupcakes are melt-in-your-mouth delicious! They remind me of French Silk Pie; they are so rich! And they are so smooth and fluffy from the whipped egg. It may surprise you that these brownie-like treats have NO FLOUR!

Homemade Fig Newtons
I was looking for some alternative snacks for my kids that are actually healthy. My husband bought a box of fig newtons (they were either GMO free or organic-or both!) for $8 and I thought, why couldn't I make them? And came across these. Mmmm!

How to Make Stovetop Coffee in a Moka Express Bialetti
My husband and I really enjoy our coffee and at home we make it the way we like it, in a Bialetti. This was learned from my husband's Italian grandparents and we make it the same way they did. (Even in the same pot which they passed on to us!)

Overnight Oats
I have started making overnight oats for breakfast every morning and I love it. I know I'm eating something good for me and I make it the night before so I don't have to think too hard first thing in the morning and it's all ready for me. My kids also really enjoy it (3 and 2 years old.)

This is my go-to recipe when I just want a simple chocolate cake. It's a recipe I got from my mom that I've made since I was a kid.

Whole Wheat Honey Sweetened Chocolate Chip Cookies
I was really wanting to make some cookies, but all my recipes take sugar. (I'm completely out of sugar and am not eager to stock up again.) Sometimes I straight out substitute the sugar for honey, but it doesn't always turn out so perfectly. So I searched on the internet for some honey sweetened cookies and found these. They turned out amazing! You can find the original recipe here.

Homemade Laundry Detergent
Since I use cloth diapers, I actually go through quite a bit of laundry detergent to keep them clean. I had known others who made their own laundry detergent, but never tried it until today. It's actually really easy to make and doesn't take very many ingredients. My sister sent me her recipe on how she makes it and I also did my own research online to see what other people recommended. There are lots of different ways to do it.

(Fudged) Seeded Popovers
I can be the worst when it comes to fudging a little on following recipes. I change the ingredients and skip steps and wherever I think it might be okay, I just make little changes to suit me at the time. So when I tried these Seeded Popovers that I found here, my fudging got me some funky results.

Homemade "Ranch" Dressing
When I lived with my family overseas growing up, salad dressing was expensive and hard to find. So we began making this as a substitute for ranch dressing. Now that I've returned to North America, I really don't like the ranch dressing you can buy from the store and by far prefer the homemade salad dressing we made from scratch. We eat this salad dressing on everything especially on a green lettuce salad and on pizza. Guests in our home often ask for the recipe. So here it is!
