If you are a Christian mother and in need of some encouragement I highly recommend this book called Prayers and Peanut Butter by Barbara Classen.
The mother who writes this is very honest about the difficulties that a mother has to deal with. It's so easy to feel overwhelmed and wallow in self pity through this time when your life is hardly your own anymore being so taken up with the cares of a husband and children.
A mother has a lot of tasks and wears a lot of hats throughout the day- teacher, nurse, alarm, chef, comforter, referee, administrator, dishwasher, carpet scrubber, bathroom cleaner, and the list goes on and on and on and on.... When does a mother get time for herself? When does a mother get to be her own person?
This book encourages moms to live for today and enjoy her children while she has them. While recognizing how difficult it is, this book will encourage moms to find contentment and joy in their daily, mundane and tedious tasks and gives many small tips for finding time for yourself, your children, and your husband.
As a mother of six children ages 7 and under, I have found great encouragement in this book. It is a constant battle for me to stay patient and not sweat the small stuff, but just to take each day, each hour, each moment one step at a time.
"The most important thing in child rearing is that Mother is the kind of person who starts every morning on her knees." And we so need to in order to get through our day with the right attitude and the right perspective in this busy time!
